Faculty and junior students
in the Respiratory Care program provided pulmonary function screenings
at the Governor's Conference on Aging on September 14th, and 15th,
2004. Seniors performed a forced expiratory maneuver into a spirometer
that measured their air volumes, and flow rates and compared them
to normal values for their age, gender, and height. This was a free
service to the seniors, and a valuable review for those students
who participated. Thanks to Saud Al-Madani, Ross Armstrong, John
Ellis, Lawrence Haas, Sarah Heinrich, Andrew Herrmann, Colleen McCleary,
Brenda McCoy, Katie Robins and Nik Sirs for participating.
La Buena Salud
Three of our students
are participating in La Buena Salud this fall. Please read about
their experience:
In participation with
La Buena Salud, I've experienced many aspects of Health Services.
The program has afforded me the opportunity of working with a diverse
group of medical disciplines. As a group, we've attained skills
to facilitate health screening for vision, hearing, hypertension
and cholesterol problems and procedures for providing medical referrals
and follow-ups for treatments. Being a member of a program that
provides health services/information to Idaho's farm workers and
their families has enlightened my view to the needs of those less
fortunate in our community. Working with clients of a different
culture while overcoming some language barriers will aid and cultivate
my skills in providing health care.
